“Vacation plans” or “I got my motorcycle license”

In my childhood, my family spend many summers in the south of Portugal. Around Fuzeta and Olhao to be specific. I love it there. Great weather, great food and the sea. We stopped going to Portugal when I was 16,17,but I have fond memories of that place and want to visit it again. The only problem is I don’t want to fly. I flew with my family and remember it as a mayor, pain. Also, I don’t want to fly for environmental reasons.

Not a problem, but driving from Germany to Portugal in an old Škoda Fabia also doesn’t sound that fun.

So during the last exam phase I finally got my motorcycle license. I wanted to do that for years.

In Germany exists a regulation where you can get a motorcycle license, for 125cc, for “cheap” when you had a car license for a few years, and you’re over 25. So as soon as I got 25 I started phony driving school.

Note:

In Europe, the motorcycle licenses are staggered. So normal you get your A1 license (125cc) when you are 16, A2(35kW) after that and finally A (no limits) after two years of owning A1 or A2, you can “upgrade” to the next higher one with Basically just the practical test on a bigger bike. Or when you’re 24 you can get the big one directly.

After a little while, I realized that “cheap” meant 700 to 800 Euros. After further inquiry, I got quotes of 1500 to 1600 Euros for an A license.

So it thought, what if I like riding bikes. Then I would want to get the bigger license, after all, so the 700€ would be wasted. After much faffing around I decided to get my A license. I decided that in September. A pure stroke of genius because, where I live, we get snow, and they cancel your practical exams when it starts snowing, and you still have to pay.

But after a little less than two months, I got my license. Two weeks before the first snow.

So the idea grew. Why not do a trip by bike.
